Antonietta Lanzarone, medical examiner, is analysing a mark on the face of F., asylum seeker from Nigeria, victim of several episodes of violence during his stay in Libya. Following the body analysis carried out by Dr. Lanzarone, she noticed multiple consolidated fractures of the bones of the facial mass compatible with a facial trauma from blunt blow (rifle butt); a fracture of the femoral shaft treated surgically in Libya, resulting in a shortening of the affected limb (3-4 cm).
The medical-legal certification service of the signs of torture for asylum seekers is routinely carried out by Dr. Lanzarone; the certifications are intended to supplement the dossiers that are submitted to the Examination Commission for asylum applications.
